More performance for your linear and rotary motors

HEIDENHAIN has developed the next generation of scanning for inductive measurement technology. The new inductive scanning method offers benefits for compact drive systems in highly demanding automation applications: little signal noise, low speed ripple, less cabling thanks to the EnDat 3 interface and the recording of operating status data.

Additional functions often open up new possibilities, and sometimes even completely new fields of application, for machines and production equipment. That is why HEIDENHAIN and the brands AMO, LEINE LINDE, LTN, NUMERIK JENA, RENCO and RSF also offer an extensive selection of products with added value for your specific requirements. These include applications with particularly high accuracy requirements or demands on process reliability.

How HEIDENHAIN inductive scanning works:

The physics behind it

Electromagnetism
An electric current and a changing electric field produce a magnetic field.

Lenz’s law
The direction of an electric current produced through electromagnetic induction is opposite to that of its source.

Electromagnetic induction
A change in magnetic flux imposed on a conductor generates an electric voltage within the conductor.

ECI 1323 Splus and EQI 1335 Splus
Rotary encoders with built-in vibration analysis

Featuring a built-in accelerometer, the HEIDENHAIN ECI 1323 Splus and EQI 1335 Splus inductive rotary encoders deliver position feedback and vibration analysis on rotating machine elements. By detecting and analyzing critical vibrations early on, the new encoders supports online condition monitoring in high-wear automation systems.

For even more condition data, the ECI 1323 Splus and EQI 1335 Splus supports up to three connected external temperature sensors. The EnDat 3 interface handles all data transmission to downstream electronics. Thanks to its added functionality, the Splus encoders saves on additional sensors, reduces cabling and makes installation easier.

The KCI/KBI series also include inductive dual encoders
and solutions for large axes.

KCI 1318 FOT and KBI 1335 FOT with integrated bearing cover

Particularly compact and also good at heat dissipation: thanks to fan-out technology (FOT), HEIDENHAIN was able to attach the electronic components and conductive tracks directly to a metal carrier for the KCI 1318 FOT and KBI 1335 FOT variants. This means, for example, that they can be used as bearing cover. Not only does this reduce the space required and the necessary number of parts, but it also makes direct outward heat dissipation through the metal carrier possible. In this variant, the circular scale features a blind hollow shaft holder.

More solutions with added value

Optical rotary encoders with the EnDat 3 interface

With the recent arrival of the HMC 2 hybrid motor cable, the third generation of the EnDat interface has entered the stage. The ECN 1325 and EQN 1337 optical rotary encoders offer space-saving, cost-effective, and high-performance position measurement on the order of angular seconds. The mechanical design of these EnDat 3 rotary encoders is compatible with that of the EnDat 2 devices. Motor manufacturers can now seamlessly transition to the HMC 2 single-cable solution and the EnDat 3 interface technology at any time. And thanks to standardized cable and connector technology, making this transition can save significant time and money. As with all EnDat encoders, the new generation provides all of the necessary information for easy initial setup, monitoring, and diagnostics.

The new R35i and R35iL encoders from RENCO are incremental rotary encoders without integral bearings. Featuring resolutions of up to 40 000 measuring steps per revolution, they are the ideal feedback systems for stepper motors in closed loop operation and for exact position measurement in measuring machines such as laser scanners.

‍Strengths and beneifts:

  • Quick and easy installation thanks to an intergral mounting aid
  • Electronic adjustment of the motor commutation signals at the press of a button
  • Safe and reliable operation thanks to monitoring and diagnostic functions never before implemented as such in incremental rotary encoders
  • Exact measurement of the rotor position for BLDC motors and highly accurate delivery of the UVW track sequence for commutation in motors with up to 32 motor pole pairs

For extremely limited installation space, RENCO offers the R35iL. It is one of the smallest rotary encoders currently on the market, with a profile of just 8.6 mm.

Rotary encoders from RENCO

A modular design enables a wide variety of integration options for the inductive angle and linear encoders from AMO. These encoders are ideal for specialized applications such as large axis diameters, long travel lengths, and harsh ambient conditions.

  • Highly versatile mechanical design
  • High accuracy and signal quality
  • Extremely forgiving of contamination
  • Long service life thanks to zero wear

Thanks to their modular design, solutions from RSF offer maximum flexibility for integrating linear and angle encoders into your systems. This includes a large number of interfaces to all common numerical controls, as well as a variety of mechanical designs. You also benefit from wide mounting tolerances and convenient encoder installation.

  • The new MCR 16 TTR und MCR 16 MBR angle encoders offer a further improvement in signal quality.
  • The modular MCR 15 (absolute) andMSR 15 (incremental) angle encoders, with scale drum diameters ranging from 50 mm to 350 mm, can be used in many applications for motor position and speed control, including metrology applications.
  • The MC 15 absolute exposed linear encoder makes exact positioning possible in measuring steps of down to 50 nm for measuring lengths of up to 10 000 mm, without needing a reference run.
  • The MS 15 exposed linear encoder lets you put together solutions perfectly matched to your needs thanks to a modular system with up to 20 000 mm-long graduation carriers and scanning heads with measuring steps ranging from 10 µm to 50 nm. Further convenience comes from the encoder's optical homing and limit functions, which can be integrated within the width of the scale.

The LIC 3100 series is joining the range of existing LIC 4000 and LIC 2000 exposed absolute linear encoders. The LIC 3100 combines very small measuring steps of just 10 nm with axis speeds of up to 600 m/min, delivering high dynamic performance and high-accuracy position measurement for linear axis lengths of up to 10 m.

A large scanning field makes the LIC 3100 highly resistant to contamination. Localized impurities on the measuring standard have minimal effect on the signal quality and measurement reliability. Thanks to their dynamic performance, long measuring lengths, and robustness, the LIC 3100 exposed linear encoders are extremely versatile, bringing the benefits of LIC encoders to even more applications.
