The next generation of inductive scanning: ECI 1122 and EQI 1134

Inductive scanning fundamentally offers a large number of benefits in any application. These qualities include compact dimensions, wide mounting tolerances, high permissible operating temperatures, resistance to contamination and being insensitive to magnetic fields. The next generation of inductive measuring technology from HEIDENHAIN, which was first used in the ECI 1122 and EQI 1134 compact rotary encoders, now significantly expands this list, particularly for compact drive systems in highly demanding automation applications. Additional benefits are little signal noise, low speed ripple, less cabling and the recording of operating status data. This is made possible by increasing the resolution of the singleturn position to 22 bits, which in turn leads to a significant improvement in controller performance in the motor. The EnDat 3 interface makes it possible to connect the HMC 2 single-cable solution.

KCI 1318 FOT and KBI 1335 FOT with integrated bearing cover

Particularly compact and also good at heat dissipation: thanks to fan-out technology (FOT), HEIDENHAIN was able to attach the electronic components and conductive tracks directly to a metal carrier for the KCI 1318 FOT and KBI 1335 FOT variants. This means, for example, that they can be used as bearing cover. Not only does this reduce the space required and the necessary number of parts, but it also makes direct outward heat dissipation through the metal carrier possible. In this variant, the circular scale features a blind hollow shaft holder.

For small motors:
Inductive rotary encoders for press-fit mounting

Meet the ideal solution for fast, easy, and reliable installation: introducing the  ECI 1119 PressFit (singleturn) and EQI 1131 PressFit (multiturn) absolute rotary encoders from HEIDENHAIN. These new encoders can be used on motors with a flange size as small as 40 mm x 40 mm and an axis height of just 20 mm.

Characteristics:

  • Compact design
  • Functional safety
  • EnDat 2.2 serial interface

The new PressFit rotary encoder:
Reliable and automated mounting

A tolerance sleeve is inserted into a precise circular hole in the motor housing. The encoder, with its PressFit flange, is then pressed inside to create a friction fit. Finally, a single central screw fastens the encoder to the motor shaft. This process saves space, permits automated assembly, and allows assembly monitoring via force measurement. These are key benefits of the ECI 1119 PressFit (singleturn) and EQI 1131 PressFit (multiturn) rotary encoders.

The benefits:

  • Automatable mounting
  • Faster installation
  • Wide mounting tolerances

HEIDENHAIN ECN 1325 and EQN 1337: optical rotary encoders with the EnDat 3 interface

With the recent arrival of the HMC 2 hybrid motor cable, the third generation of the EnDat interface has entered the stage. The ECN 1325 and EQN 1337 optical rotary encoders offer space-saving, cost-effective, and high-performance position measurement on the order of angular seconds. The mechanical design of these EnDat 3 rotary encoders is compatible with that of the EnDat 2 devices. Motor manufacturers can now seamlessly transition to the HMC 2 single-cable solution and the EnDat 3 interface technology at any time. And thanks to standardized cable and connector technology, making this transition can save significant time and money. As with all EnDat encoders, the new generation provides all of the necessary information for easy initial setup, monitoring, and diagnostics.

RENCO: the new generation of rotary encoders for stepper and BLDC motors

The new R35i and R35iL encoders from RENCO are incremental rotary encoders without integral bearings. Featuring resolutions of up to 40 000 measuring steps per revolution, they are the ideal feedback systems for stepper motors in closed loop operation and for exact position measurement in measuring machines such as laser scanners.

‍Strengths and beneifts:

  • Quick and easy installation thanks to an intergral mounting aid
  • Electronic adjustment of the motor commutation signals at the press of a button
  • Safe and reliable operation thanks to monitoring and diagnostic functions never before implemented as such in incremental rotary encoders
  • Exact measurement of the rotor position for BLDC motors and highly accurate delivery of the UVW track sequence for commutation in motors with up to 32 motor pole pairs

For extremely limited installation space, RENCO offers the R35iL. It is one of the smallest rotary encoders currently on the market, with a profile of just 8.6 mm.
