New technologies for the TNC7

In the future, the 19-inch and 24-inch variants of the TNC7 will offer cylindrical grinding and shaping operations. These functions will round out the TNC7’s machining capabilities while further enhancing the dimensional accuracy, contour fidelity and surface quality of workpieces. Single-setup machining with milling, turning and grinding operations will be easier than ever for TNC7 users.

The TNC7 and TNC7 basic will also offer new cylinder surface machining capabilities. In addition, new simulation and graphical programming functions are making TNC7 controls even more intuitive to operate through improved user guidance and new analysis options.

New addition to the TNC7 HMI-Portfolio: The TNC7 go

The TNC7 go is bringing the intuitive, future-ready TNC7 user interface to vocational training centers and legacy machines. A particular highlight is its new “Graphical positioning” function. Instead of manually writing an NC program, users can draw the desired contours or patterns directly on their touchscreen. Position approach movements are handled by the control.

As a straight-cut control the TNC7 go is the next-generation successor to the HEIDENHAIN TNC 128 control.

vTNC7: The programming system with AI

Debut at EMO: Create NC programs for HEIDENHAIN controls with the next-generation vTNC7 programming system. In 2.5D applications, this PC software significantly accelerates the programming process for one-off parts and small-batch runs, helping users move faster from initial design to finished parts.

The vTNC7 also supports users with innovative functions such as an AI chatbot for user guidance and the Feature-Based Programming function, which automatically generates NC programs. The new Klartext Converter allows these programs to run on pre-TNC7 HEIDENHAIN controls that lack the required software options.

Meanwhile, new simulation functions are allowing users to examine critical non-cutting movements in detail, thus providing greater confidence in the machining process.

vTNC7: Feature-Based Programming

Feature-Based Programming is a new function that generates important NC program sections, including information about geometry, machining operation, machining strategy, machine-specific positioning, and tilting movements.

Users can harness this function to extract the full geometry description of individual elements, including contours and depths, from the CAD data used in 3D models. This extracted data can be enriched and used to automatically generate a Klartext program. Because geometry and strategy information are kept separate, the user can store and reuse information about a given machining operation for different parts.

vTNC7: Klartext Converter

The new Klartext Converter adapts NC programs that have been generated with Feature-Based Programming in vTNC7, allowing these NC programs to run on pre-TNC7 controls that lack the required software options. It can even allow certain TNC7 cycles to run on older controls, thereby ensuring seamless backward compatibility and greater flexibility without additional programming effort.

vTNC7: Simulation functions

By allowing users to rewind and fast-forward the tool and all machine kinematics when simulating the path of the tool center point, the new simulation provided by vTNC7 allows operators to examine critical machine movements. An automatically generated simulation log further simplifies the validation process for generated NC programs, enabling fast and dependable troubleshooting.

vTNC7: AI chatbot

HEIDENHAIN is taking task-focused user support to a new level with its AI chatbot for the vTNC7 programming system. The chatbot is based on our growing experience with artificial intelligence and represents a new milestone in our continuous R&D work. It also reflects our rigorous implementation of AI technologies at HEIDENHAIN and shows how innovative research can translate into practical user support.

The new AI chatbot, which is available exclusively for the vTNC7, encompasses all the programming system’s functions, avoids communicating in jargon, supports users during programming, provides tips, and even generates programming suggestions in Klartext code.

TNC7 basic: the 3+2-axis control 

The TNC7 basic lies near the lower end of the HMI portfolio, replacing the popular TNC 620. Its 16-inch touchscreen features Full HD resolution. Particularly space-conscious users can opt for a machine operating panel with only the most essential functions. The TNC7 basic can be used with the typical, wide-ranging TNC7 software options that boost user-friendliness, efficiency and process reliability.

The OC 310 multi-functional override controller

Two potentiometers in one multi-functional operating element: the new OC 310 override controller facilitates working with a TNC7, since the user can now regulate both the feed rate and rapid traverse with just this one operating element. The user is supported by the new “Conditional stop” software function, for intuitive, convenient and one-handed proving-out of NC programs. The user simply defines breakpoints in the NC program at which the control will stop during program run (such as before a tilting function, when the tool is changed, or when the machining feed rate changes to rapid traverse). The override controller vibrates to generate tactile feedback, simplifying the user's workday. Each user can define the events for which this function is active.
